Enjoy an inspiring and entertainingevening as Nobel Prize Nominee Greg Mortenson, best known for his New York Times best-selling books Three Cups of Tea and Stones into Schools, recounts his remarkable journey from mountain climber to globalhumanitarian. Greg’s non-profit Central Asia Institute promotes and supports community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan, where he has built over 130 schools.
From the beginning, Greg’s efforts have been supported by school children and other organizations in the United States (and now around the world) through his Pennies forPeace program. The Houston Youth Leadership Awards will feature Greg recognizing andinterviewing selected young people from Houstonto represent the many youths in the Houston area who have exhibited exceptional efforts as positive change agents in their communities and/or the world.
The Pennies for Peace service-learning program is part of the broader work of Nobel Peace Prize nominee Greg Mortenson, best known for his New York Times #1 best-selling book Three Cups of Tea, which recounts his remarkable journey from mountain climber to humanitarian. He is also the co-author of two related NYT # 1 best sellers, Three Cups of TeaYoung Reader’s Version and Listen to the Wind Children’s Version.

Empowering all children to become global change agents for Peace!
Greg Mortenson's non-profit Central Asia Institute promotes and supports community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.From the beginning, Greg’s efforts have been supported by school children in the United States (and now around the world) through his Pennies for Peace program.
This international service-learning program is designed to broaden student’s cultural horizons and teach them about their capacities as philanthropists – one penny at a time.
The award-winning Pennies for Peace Toolkit was developed with support from the NEA Foundation and the Pearson Foundation.
The FREE Toolkit includes:
A CD with professionally written K-12 curriculum, linked to national standards with an assessment tool, rubrics & activity reproducible, as well as many other helpful tools.
A DVD with a number of inspiring stories featuring teachers and students who have participated in the program, as well as interviews with Greg
